Monday

Connect Monday to a MeDo app: browse boards and items, find items by status, and create, update, move, comment on, archive, or delete reviewed items.

Updated 2026-10-09

Monday is a connector: it links a MeDo app to one Monday account, so the app can read workspaces, boards, groups, columns, items, subitems, and item updates, and can create or change items on a board. The app works with the boards the connected account can reach.

What you can build

  • A private project dashboard. Choose a board, see its items grouped with their status and owner, and load more items when needed.
  • A request intake form. Preview an item name, status, and due date before creating it in one selected board and group.
  • A follow-up page. Find items by status, review and confirm changes to status, owner, or due date, and move items to another group.
  • An item detail page. Show an item's updates and subitems, and post a reviewed update.

Monday fits when work is already tracked on Monday boards and the app should add a focused view or a structured way in. It is not a reporting product: item lists are paged, see Limits.

Build examples

Copy one of these into the prompt box. The first one is the smallest useful starting point and only reads data.

Use @Monday to build a private project dashboard where I choose a Monday board, view items by group with their status and owner, and load more items when needed.
Use @Monday to build a request intake form that previews an item name, status, and due date before creating it in one selected Monday board and group.
Use @Monday to build a private follow-up page that finds items by status, lets me review and confirm changes to status, owner, or due date, and moves items to another group.
Use @Monday to build an item detail page that shows an item's updates and subitems and lets me post a reviewed update.

Prepare and connect

You need a Monday account that can already see the board the app should use. No API token or Monday app registration is involved. One extra step applies to Monday: an account admin has to install the connection once for the whole Monday account before anyone, including the admin's teammates, can connect.

  1. If you are not a Monday account admin, ask one to approve the installation first. If the authorization page shows "App is not installed", this is the missing step.
  2. Open Skills & Connectors in the sidebar and search for Monday.
  3. Open the Monday card and click Connect.
  4. Sign in to Monday and approve the access MeDo asks for.
  5. The button changes to Connected.

If you start building before connecting, MeDo shows a Monday connection button under its reply. You can connect there instead.

Use it in your app

  • The app uses your connected account, not each visitor's own Monday login. Everyone who opens the board view sees the same data. Keep internal board views behind your app's own sign-in and limited to the intended people.
  • Choose the board and group in the prompt, or let the app offer a picker. Either way the app should work against a board you chose, not against whatever a visitor selects.
  • Item lists are pages, not totals. Each page holds 50 items. Ask the app to show a page with a clear way to load more, and avoid presenting one page as the whole board.
  • Find items by status with a search, not a filter on the list. Searching by a status or another column label is a separate step from listing a board's items.
  • Status changes use existing labels only. The app offers the labels the board already has. A label that does not exist is rejected and never created.
  • Writes are confirmed first. MeDo previews the new item, or the exact column and new value, before saving. This covers creating an item, changing a column, moving an item to another group, and posting an update.
  • Archive before delete. An archived item can be restored in Monday. Deleting is permanent, so the app asks for a second, explicit confirmation that names the item.
  • Internal notes belong to the app. Notes and follow-up state that Monday has no column for live in your app's tables, keyed to the real item.

Limits and troubleshooting

What you may expectWhat actually happens
Creating boards, groups, columns, or status labelsNot available. The app works with the structure that already exists.
Creating subitemsNot available. The app can read subitems of an item.
Files, docs, dashboards, and automationsNot available.
Managing users, teams, workspaces, or permissionsNot available. The app can list members to assign an owner.
Webhooks or automatic updates when a board changesNot available. The app reads data when a user opens or refreshes a view.
Filtering a board's item list by status in one callNot available. Use the search for items by status or another column label.
A complete board exportNot available. Results are paged.
Automatic retries on a failed writeNot performed. An unknown result is left unknown so the same item is not created twice.

"App is not installed" on the Monday authorization page. A Monday account admin must install the connection for the whole account first. Send the admin the install link MeDo gives you when you first connect, then connect again from MeDo.

"Connection required" appears in the app. Ask the app owner to open the connector card and click Connect, then reload.

A status change is rejected. The label does not exist on that board. Pick one of the board's current labels.

An item was not updated. Writes do not retry automatically. Reopen the item in Monday, confirm what actually happened, and only then repeat the change.

Item counts look low. One page of results is not a board total. Use the load-more control, or narrow the view to one group.
